Planning for Moving Season: Summer, Month-Ends and Weekends

Moving demand is anything but even. A little planning turns the busy months into your best months instead of your most exhausting ones.

Know when the rush comes

Across most of the United States, demand climbs from late spring and peaks in summer, when school is out and leases turn over. Inside every month there is a second rhythm: the last few days and the first few days are far busier than the middle. And every week, Fridays and Saturdays fill first.

Look at your own bookings from last year. Your market has its own peaks, and they are usually predictable.

Price for the calendar you actually have

When every company in town is booked on the last Saturday of June, a discount on that date is money left on the table. When the third Tuesday of the month is wide open, a small saving can fill a truck that would otherwise sit still.

Price busy dates at full value and offer modest savings on open dates, and let flexible customers choose. You earn more on peak days and spread the work more evenly.

Staff up before you need to

Hire and train seasonal helpers before the rush, not during it. Pair new movers with experienced leads, and keep your best crew chiefs on the hardest jobs. A smaller number of well-run crews beats more crews that break things.

Protect the schedule with deposits and waitlists

A deposit turns a maybe into a booking and keeps your peak dates from filling with customers who change their minds. When a date is full, take a waitlist: cancellations happen, and the customer who was turned away is the easiest one to win back.

Keep quality high when every truck is out

Peak season is when reviews are made. Confirm every job the night before, give crews their full day in advance, and post each job the day it happens so payments, tips and hours are settled while everyone still remembers them.
